Injustice and Oppression to Be Punished
1 Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened,
that it cannot save,
or his ear dull, that it cannot hear;
2 but your iniquities have made a separation
between you and your God,
and your sins have hidden his face from you
so that he does not hear.
3 For your hands are defiled with blood
and your fingers with iniquity;
your lips have spoken lies,
your tongue mutters wickedness.
4 No one enters suit justly,
no one goes to law honestly;
they rely on empty pleas, they speak lies,
they conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity.
5 They hatch adders’ eggs,
they weave the spider’s web;
he who eats their eggs dies,
and from one which is crushed a viper is hatched.
6 Their webs will not serve as clothing;
men will not cover themselves with what they make.
Their works are works of iniquity,
and deeds of violence are in their hands.
7 Their feet run to evil,
and they make haste to shed innocent blood;
their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity,
desolation and destruction are in their highways.
8 The way of peace they know not,
and there is no justice in their paths;
they have made their roads crooked,
no one who goes in them knows peace.
9 Therefore justice is far from us,
and righteousness does not overtake us;
we look for light, and behold, darkness,
and for brightness, but we walk in gloom.
10 We grope for the wall like the blind,
we grope like those who have no eyes;
we stumble at noon as in the twilight,
among those in full vigor we are like dead men.
11 We all growl like bears,
we moan and moan like doves;
we look for justice, but there is none;
for salvation, but it is far from us.
12 For our transgressions are multiplied before you,
and our sins testify against us;
for our transgressions are with us,
and we know our iniquities:
13 transgressing, and denying the LORD,
and turning away from following our God,
speaking oppression and revolt,
conceiving and uttering from the heart lying words.
14 Justice is turned back,
and righteousness stands afar off;
for truth has fallen in the public squares,
and uprightness cannot enter.
15 Truth is lacking,
and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.
The LORD saw it, and it displeased him
that there was no justice.
16 He saw that there was no man,
and wondered that there was no one to intervene;
then his own arm brought him victory,
and his righteousness upheld him.
17 He put on righteousness as a breastplate,
and a helmet of salvation upon his head;
he put on garments of vengeance for clothing,
and wrapped himself in fury as a mantle.
18 According to their deeds, so will he repay,
wrath to his adversaries, repayment to his enemies;
to the islands he will render repayment.
19 So they shall fear the name of the LORD from the west,
and his glory from the rising of the sun;
for he will come like a rushing stream,
which the wind of the LORD drives.
20 “And he will come to Zion as Redeemer,
to those in Jacob who turn from transgression, says the LORD.
21 “And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says the LORD: my spirit which is upon you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your children, or out of the mouth of your children’s children, says the LORD, from this time forth and for evermore.”

Like a warrior, God goes forth to fight for His people, waging war against the sins that hide His face from us. Lord, You come as Redeemer to those who turn from transgressions. What do I need to turn from so that I can turn more fully to You at the coming of Your Son?

1Mirad que no se ha acortado la
mano del Señor para salvar,
ni se ha endurecido su oído
para oír.
2Son vuestras iniquidades las que
han puesto separación
entre vosotros y vuestro Dios;
vuestros pecados, los que han ocultado
su rostro
de vosotros para no oíros.
3Pues vuestras manos están manchadas
de sangre,
y vuestros dedos, de delitos.
Vuestros labios hablan mentiras,
vuestras lenguas urden el crimen.
4No hay quien reclame con justicia,
ni pleitee con verdad:
se confía en vano, se habla en falso,
se concibe malicia, se da a luz iniquidad.
5Rompen huevos de áspid,
y tejen telas de araña.
Quien coma sus huevos morirá,
pues de lo cascado brota una víbora.
6Sus telas no sirven para vestir,
ni sus obras para arroparse.
Sus obras son obras inicuas,
y en sus manos hay acciones violentas.
7Sus pies corren al mal,
se dan prisa en derramar sangre inocente.
Sus intenciones son intenciones inicuas,
devastación y destrucción marcan
sus rutas.
8No conocen el camino de la paz,
no hay justicia en sus senderos;
sus sendas se les hacen tortuosas,
quien camina por ellas no conoce la
paz.
9Por eso se alejó de nosotros el derecho,
no nos alcanzó la justicia;
esperamos la luz, pero tenemos tinieblas,
la claridad, pero caminamos a oscuras.
10Como ciegos vamos palpando la
pared,
y andamos a tientas como quienes
no tienen ojos;
tropezamos a mediodía como si hubiese
anochecido,
en pleno vigor estamos como muertos.
11Todos gruñimos como osos,
gemimos como palomas;
esperábamos la justicia, pero no
existe,
la salvación, pero se alejó de nosotros.
12Pues se han multiplicado nuestros
delitos contra Ti,
nuestros pecados testimonian contra
nosotros;
nuestros delitos nos acompañan,
y conocemos nuestras iniquidades:
13rebelarse y renegar del Señor,
darle la espalda a nuestro Dios,
hablar de violencia y rebelión,
concebir en el corazón y proferir palabras
mentirosas.
14Se echó atrás el derecho
y se quedó lejos la justicia;
la verdad tropieza en la plaza,
y la honestidad no logra llegar.
15Se ha ausentado la fidelidad,
y quien se aparta del mal es apresado.
Miró el Señor y pareció mal a sus ojos
porque no había derecho.
16Vio que no había nadie,
y se asombró de que nadie intercediera.
Entonces, su brazo lo salvó,
y lo sostuvo su justicia. 17Se vistió la justicia por coraza,
con el yelmo de la salvación en su
cabeza.
Se puso las ropas de venganza por
vestidura,
y se envolvió de celo como manto.
18Él retribuirá según las obras:
furor a sus rivales,
desquite contra sus enemigos.
Dará su merecido a las islas.
19Los de occidente temerán el Nombre
del Señor,
y los de oriente, su gloria,
porque vendrá como torrente violento,
al que impulsa el Espíritu del Señor.
20En cambio, vendrá como redentor
para Sión
y para los de Jacob que se hayan
convertido del pecado
–oráculo del Señor–.
21Por mi parte, esta es mi alianza con
ellos, dice el Señor:
Mi Espíritu, que está sobre ti, y las
palabras que he puesto en tu boca, no
se separarán de tu boca, ni de la boca
de tus hijos, ni de la boca de los hijos de
tus hijos –dice el Señor–, desde ahora y
para siempre.
Pregunta para la Lectio Divina de hoy:
Como un guerrero, Dios Avanza para pelear por su gente, haciendo la guerra
contra los los pecados que esconden Su cara de nosotros. Señor, Tú vienes
como Redentor a aqueloos que se apartande las transgresiones. ¿Der qué necesito
apartarme para que pueda acercarme más completamente a Tí en la venida de Tú Hijo?
