Commentary on the Book of Hosea, Chapter 7:

God’s frustration with the lack of faith of His people continues as this chapter alternates between God’s desires and the people’s rejection of Him. God remembers all their sins (v. 2). All the people are implicated (vv. 4-7), and they turn to other nations without realizing the dangers (vv. 8-9). Although God knows destruction is coming because they have forsaken the Covenant (v. 13), that is not His goal. He has trained them for victory, but they do evil instead (v. 15). He wants to redeem them, but their rejection of God shows through their lies (v. 13). None of the leadership calls upon God for help (v. 7) despite the fact He would heal them (v. 1).

The Book of Hosea, Chapter 7:

1 when I would heal Israel, the corruption of Ephraim is
revealed,
and the wicked deeds of Samaria;
for they deal falsely, the thief breaks in,
and the bandits raid without.
2 But they do not consider
that I remember all their evil works.
Now their deeds encompass them,
they are before my face.
3 By their wickedness they make the king glad,
and the princes by their treachery.
4 They are all adulterers;
they are like a heated oven,
whose baker ceases to stir the
fire,
from the kneading of the dough until it is leavened.
5 On the day of our king the princes
became sick with the heat of wine;
he stretched out his hand with mockers.
6 For like an oven their hearts burn with intrigue;
all night their anger smolders;
in the morning it blazes like
a flaming fire.
7 All of them are hot as an oven, and they devour their rulers.
All their kings have fallen; and none of them calls upon
me.
8 Ephraim mixes himself with the peoples;
Ephraim is a cake not turned.
9 Aliens devour his strength, and he knows it not;
gray hairs are sprinkled upon him,
and he knows it not.
10 The pride of Israel witnesses against him;
yet they do not return to the
Lord their God,
nor seek him, for all this.
11 Ephraim is like a dove, silly and without sense, calling to Egypt, going to
Assyria.
12 As they go, I will spread over them my net;
I will bring them down like birds of the air;
I will chastise them for their wicked deeds.
13 Woe to them, for they have strayed from me!
Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against me!
I would redeem them,
but they speak lies against me.
14 They do not cry to me from the heart,
but they wail upon their beds;
for grain and wine they gash themselves,
they rebel against me.
15 Although I trained and strengthened their arms,
yet they devise evil against me.
16 They turn to Baal;
they are like a treacherous bow,
their princes shall fall by the sword
because of the insolence of their tongue.
This shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.

*Daily Lectio Divina Question:

"They do not cry to me from the heart, but they wail upon their beds. For grain and wine they gash themselves, they rebel against me." (v. 14) What are the things in my life that I run to for comfort instead of running to God? Take these things to The Lord in prayer and listen for what He is saying to you.

Oseas 7

1 Cuando quiero sanar a Israel
queda al descubierto la iniquidad de
Efraím
y las maldades de Samaría;
porque se ejercitan en la mentira.
Los ladrones penetran en la casa,
y afuera asaltan los bandidos.
2No toman en consideración
que Yo recuerdo todas sus maldades.
Ahora les han acorralado sus obras,
que están presentes ante Mí.
3Con sus malicias deleitan al rey,
y con sus lisonjas a los príncipes.
4Todos ellos son adúlteros,
como horno encendido
que el panadero deja de atizar
desde que mezcla la masa hasta que
fermenta.
5El día de nuestro rey
los príncipes se debilitan
por el ardor del vino,
y él extiende la mano a los burlones.
6Arriman su corazón, que es como
un horno,
para intrigar;
y él, sin enterarse;
ya le han salido las canas,
y él, sin enterarse.
10La arrogancia de Israel se delata en
su cara,
pero no se convierten al Señor, su
Dios,
ni le buscan, a pesar de todo esto.
11Efraím es como una paloma,
ingenua, sin cordura:
llaman a Egipto,
acuden a Asiria.
12Dondequiera que vayan,
sobre ellos tenderé mi red;
los abatiré como a pájaros del cielo,
los castigaré en cuanto se oiga su
bandada.
Duro reproche de los pecados
13¡Ay de ellos, que se apartaron de
Mí!
¡Ruina para ellos, que se rebelaron
contra Mí!
¿Y Yo, habré de rescatarlos
cuando ellos propalan mentiras
contra Mí?
14No me invocan de corazón,
cuando ululan en sus lechos;
se hacen incisiones por trigo y mosto
y son contumaces en rebelarse contra
Mí.
15Yo adiestré, fortalecí sus brazos,
pero ellos cavilaron el mal contra
Mí.
16Se vuelven al que no sirve de nada,
son como un arco que falla.
Sus príncipes caerán a espada
por las bravatas de su lengua;
