Read: Meet Your New Catholic Teachers

Say a big hello to the 62 new Catholic teachers, pictured, who are currently taking up their new posts in schools across the Diocese of Lansing – all dedicated to raising up a new generation of saints and scholars. Deo gratias.

“Many of these 62 individuals most likely could have gotten a job in a public school where they could earn more dollars, but instead, they said “yes” to teaching in a Catholic school – what an incredible gift it is that they heard the call and responded,” said Tom Maloney, Superintendent for Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Lansing.

“Our new recruits include graduates fresh out of college, professionals from other sectors making a mid-career switch into teaching, and Catholic teachers who have previously taught in public schools but now feel drawn to share their experience, and their faith, in Catholic schools. May God bless them all in their endeavors in the years to come.”

The new teachers gathered in Holly, Michigan, for two days last month to take part in the Diocese of Lansing’s recently established New Teachers Institute. The initiative is funded thanks to your generosity to the Stewardship for Saints and Scholars campaign, which raised over $64 million for Catholic education across the Diocese of Lansing.

The New Teachers Institute is run by the diocesan Schools Department. The institute provides a three-year program of ongoing formation and professional development for the new recruits. This is its second year in existence.

“Over the three years, we aim to build relationships with our new teachers, to equip them with the tools they’ll need to flourish in the incredible apostolate they’ve been called to, and to help them become the confident, capable educators our children need if they are to blossom into the saints and scholars that Jesus Christ is calling them to become.”

Each teacher will also receive a year-on-year financial bonus to reward their generous response to teach in Catholic schools. The Diocese of Lansing currently has 36 Catholic schools serving more than 8,400 students. Would you like your child or grandchild to be among that number?
