“Unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 18:3

Priests, deacons, DREs, catechists, OCIA directors, and all those involved in sacramental preparation are warmly invited to the 2025 Liturgical Formation Day: Tolkien and First Sacraments, an opportunity for inspiration, renewal, and practical insight for those accompanying children to their first encounter with Jesus in the sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Penance

This year, we’ll hear how we can improve our offerings for catechesis and parent formation to prepare for these first sacraments, plus explore JRR Tolkien's writings on the heart of the child and liturgical imagination, with the assistance of Dr. Ben Reinhard of Franciscan University, Hannah Marconeri of St. Robert Bellarmine in Flushing, and our own Richard Budd and Jeremy Priest of the Diocese of Lansing. In this one-day seminar, we’ll look at how we can adjust our approach to sacramental prep and catechesis to more intentionally work with the imaginative innocence of the child.

When: Friday, October 24, 2025 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Where: St. Patrick Parish, O'Kelly Hall (PLC), Brighton

Cost: $30 per person

Registration closes October 19th.
