Flint, MI – Catholic Charities has been hosting hundreds of student volunteers from Catholic Schools throughout Genesee County, including: St. John Vianney, Flint, St. Pius X Elementary School, Flint, St. Mary Elementary School, Mt. Morris. The students have been volunteering as part of Catholic Schools Week, working on several different service projects in the Catholic Charities Center for Hope. Students from Holy Family School, Grand Blanc made and distributed “Lunches of Love” on February 2, through Catholic Charities’ North End Soup Kitchen.
Students will be working on projects at St. John the Evangelist, Fenton and St. Thomas More Academy, Burton throughtout the week.
“We are so grateful to all these students for volunteering their time,” says Vicky Schultz, President and CEO of Catholic Charities. “Through their service and Christ-like compassion they are helping us provide hope to the most vulnerable in our community.”
A few of the projects that students worked on included making blankets for the Center for Hope Warming Center, making sandwiches and decorating cookies for Catholic Charities’ three soup kitchens, as well as making and bottling laundry soap for the Community Closet, also in the Center for Hope. The students are also pitching in with water distribution efforts as Catholic Charities continues to serve the community during the Flint Water Crisis.
National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. Throughout the week, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to their church, communities and nation. (www.ncea.org)
