Teaching canon law at the University of Detroit-Mercy

The University of Detroit-Mercy is a Catholic University in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions. The law school gives its students a legal education that integrates Catholic teaching, theory and practice.  Dr. Pam Wilkins, dean of the School of Law, sees a real need for civil law students to have a background in canon law. She realizes that in today's world they will encounter it when dealing with issues such as property, divorce, sexual misconduct and the seal of confession. Dr. Eileen Jaramillo was highly recommended to teach the course by Sister Sharon Holland, IHM.  Jaramillo is a tribunal judge in the Diocese of Lansing and a canonical consultant to religious communities. She teaches canon law to ecclesial lay ministers and men studying for the permanent diaconate in the Siena Heights University Theological Program. Jaramillo holds an M.A. in theology from Aquinas College, a M.Div. from Ss. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, a licentiate and a M.A. in canon law from St. Paul University, and a D.Min. from the Ecumenical Theological Seminary.
