In December 2013, Lansing's cathedral, at 219 Seymour Ave., will mark its 100th anniversary. In anticipation of that remarkable milestone, celebrations began Dec. 9-10, 2012. Sunday Mass on Dec. 9 honored the establishment of the cathedral. A reception followed Mass, with food, entertainment and family activities. A special vesper service was held, as well.On Dec, 19, Bishop Earl Boyea, joined by Bishop Emeritus Carl Mengeling, Cathedral Rector Msgr. Bernard Reilly and Chancellor Msgr. Steven Raica, celebrated the Mass of the Dedication of a Church.
Calling the cathedral an “architectural treasure, and a source of great pride for our parishioners,” Msgr. Reilly, invited all members of the diocese, as well as the parish, to join in the various memorial celebrations throughout the coming year. As the home church of the bishop, the cathedral acts as a central church for all members of the diocese. While the church building was dedicated originally in 1913, it did not become the cathedral until the Lansing Diocese was formed in 1937.

Dedication of St. Mary Church December 8th, 1913 Most Reverend Edward D. Kelly, Auxiliary Bishop of Detroit, presided at the five hour ceremony. The pews are arranged to accommodate the Latin and Greek alphabetsbeing traced on the floor.
