Watch: Day 2: Bishop Boyea & Seven Meals with Jesus: "She has shown great love" (Luke 7:36-50)

Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing invites you to join him for a new series of seven reflections on meals in people’s homes where Jesus Christ is present. Each encounter is recorded in the Gospel of Saint Luke. Today is Day Two.

What’s the significance of these meals? Well, they foreshadow the heavenly banquet, the Marriage Supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:9), to which each of us is personally invited by Christ. And, thus, they help inform our response to that divine invitation as we each work out our own salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12).

In this second reflection, Bishop Boyea meditates upon Christ’s presence at a meal at the home of Simon, a Pharisee, which is interrupted by a woman, known publicly as a sinner, who walks into the party and washes the feet of Jesus with her tears before wiping them with her hair and anointing them with oil (Luke 7:36-50). As Christ tells Simon the Pharisee: “She has shown great love.”
