Watch: COVID-19 & The Compassion of Jesus Christ

The COVID-19 pandemic disproportionally impacts upon the poorest in our communities both in terms of health outcomes and job security.

In response, Catholic parishes and Catholic charities are at the forefront of supporting the most vulnerable, bringing the compassion of Jesus Christ to all those in need.

We spent an afternoon with one young Catholic volunteer, Thomas Crowley of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at Church of the Resurrection in Lansing.

"Just because this virus has got us down right now it doesn't stop us from being people who care for each other," said 19-year-old Thomas.

"It also helps us become more Christ-like by serving the poor so that the love and joy that I get is as great or even greater than the joy they get from me".

The Society of St Vincent de Paul is a worldwide confederation of national charities with about 750,000 members. It was founded in Paris in 1833 by Blessed Frederic Ozanam. Membership is open to men and women, young and old. Want to help? Or perhaps you need help?:
