Bishop Earl Boyea celebrated a dedication Mass in St. Dominic Chapel at Siena Heights University in Adrian for its new altar. It took place on the feast of St. Catherine of Siena and the sixth anniversary of Bishop Boyea’s installation as bishop of the Diocese of Lansing. Sister Margaret Albert, OP, president of the University, welcomed and thanked everyone for their support and dedication. The combined university choirs sang during the Mass.Last year, after a donation was given to the church by the Koch Foundation for new furniture, additional funding was provided by benefactors and the university. A committee selected Lenawee County architect Kara Lennard and Amish craftsman Clayton Yoder of Indiana to design and develop the pieces.
In addition to the altar, the furniture includes an ambo, presider and deacon chairs, large and small tables, blessing font base and lectern. The bowl for the baptismal font was handmade by an artist at the Toledo Museum of Art.
Sister Marilyn Barnett, OP, remarked, “It was wonderful to see the idea take shape and come into a reality. It will convey to people that this is a sacred space in which we worship.”
