Apostle to the Apostles. This title is given solely to Saint Mary Magdalen. It was not given to Saint Peter, Saint Paul, or any of the other disciples, only Mary Magdalen. It was to her that Jesus entrusted to be the first witness to the resurrection, and it was to her that He told to share the good news to the other Apostles.
So writes Father Corey Bilodeau, pictured, the new pastor of Saint Mary Magdalen in Brighton upon the parish's patronal feast day. Father Bilodeau continues:
What a beautiful gift, but also a hard mission that Saint Mary Magdalen was tasked with. I can only imagine what she was thinking, ”Not me Lord. I am not qualified, I have such a dark history, my path of holiness is nowhere it should be.” And yet, in spite of all that, Jesus chose her to be the first person He revealed himself to after his resurrection.
As the new pastor of Saint Mary Magdalen for only a week now, I continually feel the immense weight of what I have been called to and have often been drawn to Saint Mary Magdalen, asking for her intercession. She shows all of us to fulfill our mission, we need to stay close to Christ. It is only from there that we can be missionary disciples, to be witnesses to the resurrection. On this feast day, let us turn to Saint Mary Magdalen to show us the way.
