Family Resources for Year of the Bible Week 6

*Through the Advent and Christmas seasons the Family Resources had diverted from the regular BYOB reading schedule. They will now revert back to main schedule of readings.

Sunday, January 3 – Epiphany

Matthew 2:9b–11

Let’s hear what happened when the Wise Men followed the star:

“And behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy, and going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.”

  • What did you hear? [Reflect based on responses.]
  • I wonder how the wise men felt when they first saw Jesus, whom they had been searching so long for?
  • What gifts can we offer to Jesus?

Monday, January 4

Matthew 26

Tuesday, January 5

Matthew 27

Wednesday, January 6

Let’s listen to the words God gave to the prophet Isaiah about the coming of the kings with their gifts.

Isaiah 60:3–5, 6b
“Nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising.
Lift up your eyes round about, and see;
they all gather together, they come to you...
Then you shall see and be radiant,
your heart shall thrill and rejoice...
They shall bring gold and frankincense,
and shall proclaim the praise of the Lord.”

  • What did you hear? [Reflect based on responses.]
  • What gifts will they bring?
  • Who will proclaim the praise of the Lord?
  • What can we say to praise the Lord?

Thursday, January 7

Philippians 1:27

“[Only] let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you stand firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel…” (Phil 1:27)

  • I wonder how we can live our lives worthy of the Gospel?
  • I wonder who we are striving (working) side by side with?

Friday, January 8

Philippians 2:14-15

“Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish…, among whom you shine as lights in the world,” (Phil 2:14-15)

  • I wonder if it might be hard to do things without grumbling?
  • In what way can we shine as lights in the world?

Saturday, January 9

Philippians 3:20-21

“But our commonwealth (homeland) is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body…” (Phil 20-21)

  • Are we awaiting Jesus right now?
  • I wonder what it will mean to have a “glorious” body like Jesus?
