Family Resources for Bishop's Year of the Bible: Week 52

Book of Revelation
The book of Revelation gives us a view of scripture we have not yet seen. It is written with symbolic language and imagery. John is on the Island of Patmos and has visions he shares to enlighten the reader to the Glory of God. God speaks to us through these words and shows us how to remain with him until the end of time. How to keep Hope in Christ Final victory over death when He will come again in all His Glory. A time when God will be all in all. A time when there will be a new heaven and a new earth. All will be in communion subject to Him. We ponder through these words of radiance and wonder what this time will be like when all are in the full presence of God forever.

Revelation 19:6-8
6 Then I heard something like the sound of a great multitude or the sound of rushing water or mighty peals of thunder, as they said:
“Alleluia!
The Lord has established his reign,
[our] God, the Almighty.
7 Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory.
For the wedding day of the Lamb  has come,
his bride has made herself ready.
8 She was allowed to wear
a bright, clean linen garment.”
(The linen represents the righteous deeds of the holy ones.)

  • I wonder what the wedding feast of the Lord will be like.
  • I wonder about the joy people will share that day.
  • I wonder how we will prepare for the wedding feast. How can we make ourselves ready?

Revelation 21:1-4
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
2I also saw the holy city, a new Jerusalem,* coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, God’s dwelling is with the human race. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them [as their God]. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, [for] the old order has passed away.”

  • I wonder what the new heaven and new earth will be like.
  • I wonder how God dwells with His people.
  • What will it be like to have God always with us?

Revelation 21:5-7
5 The one who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Then he said, “Write these words down, for they are trustworthy and true.” 6 He said to me, “They are accomplished.* I [am] the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give a gift from the spring of life-giving water. 7 The victor will inherit these gifts, and I shall be his God, and he will be my son.

  • I wonder how God makes all things new.
  • I wonder what gift God gives to the thirsty.
  • What does it mean to be the son or daughter of God?

Revelation 21:9b-14
9 One of the seven angels who held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come here. I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 He took me in spirit to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God.
11It gleamed with the splendor of God. Its radiance was like that of a precious stone, like jasper, clear as crystal.

  • I wonder what makes this city holy.
  • I wonder what this city of radiance and crystal is like

Revelation 21:22-23
22 I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God almighty and the Lamb.
23 The city had no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gave it light, and its lamp was the Lamb. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and to it the kings of the earth will bring their treasure.

  • I wonder why there is no need for a sun or a moon.
  • I wonder what it will be like to see the glory of God and His Light.

Revelation 22:1-5
1 Then the angel showed me the river of life-giving water, sparkling like crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb
2 down the middle of its street. On either side of the river grew the tree of life that produces fruit twelve times a year, once each month; the leaves of the trees serve as medicine for the nations.
3 Nothing accursed will be found there anymore. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him.
4 They will look upon his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
5 Night will be no more, nor will they need light from lamp or sun, for the Lord God shall give them light, and they shall reign forever and ever.

  • I wonder how water can be life-giving.
  • I wonder what the fruit of the tree of life could be.
  • What might it be like when we look upon the face of God?

Revelation 22:17, 20
17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let the hearer say, “Come.” Let the one who thirsts come forward, and the one who wants it receive the gift of life-giving water. 20 The one who gives this testimony says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!

  • I wonder what we will say to Jesus when He comes.
  • I wonder what that day will be like.
