The primary focus of this position is the creation and implementation of strategies and tactics to enhance financial resources in support of Catholic activities in the Diocese of Lansing, Michigan. The Diocese of Lansing is comprised of approximately 80 parishes, 30 schools, 5 Catholic Charities agencies, and numerous Catholic organizations and ministries.
To do this well, the Vice President/Director must build relationships with relevant constituencies, including: pastors and clergy, parishioners, board members and others interested in Catholic activities such as community representatives and grant-makers.
He or she will prepare regular reports on the status of fundraising programs; will maintain an accessible fundraising calendar; will develop staff to assist in development efforts; and, will prepare and administer a Development budget. He or she will oversee the organization and maintenance of a donor database, development records and donor communications.
GOALS
• The advancement of existing donor relationships and fundraising programs, including the deepening of those relationships through regular communications and stewardship efforts, with an emphasis on personal meetings, and with the ultimate goal of increasing total funds raised.
• The implementation of a plan: (1) to increase and expand current development programs; (2) to increase and expand the universe of major giving and foundation prospects, as well as a pipeline of smaller and mid-level donors; and (3) to establish a first-in-class planned giving program.
• The articulation of clear processes, systems, and performance measures to assist in the achievement of these development goals.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Primary responsibility for the implementation of fundraising activities, with an initial focus on the annual appeal.
• The establishment of fundraising goals, both short-term and long-term, as well as tactics, methods and timetables necessary or helpful to achieve those goals, and accompanying deliverables.
• The establishment of a development plan, including annual giving, major giving, planned giving, grants, events, and online giving.
• Collaborative work with pastors and clergy, staff and lay leadership in the solicitation of donations, directly and in support of those others.
• The retention and management of staff and volunteers in support of the fundraising goals, as required.
