Continuing Adult Faith Formation Opportunities

During the VOICES process, many of you asked about the opportunity to cafecontinue your faith formation. Goal 3 of our diocesan pastoral plan commits to "creating comprehensive continuing adult education and formation opportunities utilizing a wide range of adult learning styles". In response to this goal, we are compiling adult faith formation opportunities within the Diocese of Lansing and in our neighboring dioceses.We have attempted to categorize the offerings in order to provide a faster search.

ADULT FAITH FORMATION

A new women’s support group has begun at St. Robert Bellarmine, Flushing.  For more information call 810-659-2501.


A group discussing the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults meets Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. at the parish center at St. Mary, Williamston.  John McAuliffe will lead the discussions.  Call 517-625-2620 for further information.


Financial Peace University classes begin at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14 at St. Mary, Williamston.  For details, call 517-655-2620.


Fanning the Flame ‘09, for young adults 18-30, will be offered at St. Mary, Westphalia, Saturday, June 20 beginning at 11:00 a.m.  Presentations include “The Universal Call to Holiness” by Msgr. Steven Raica, Chancellor of the Diocese of Lansing, “The Catholic Family”, by Fr. Claiming Our Kinship with Earth Community: Humans and Animals as Companions in Creation will be presented by Sisters Joan Marie Weithman, OP and Sarah Ann Sharkey, on Saturday, September 26, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Weber Retreat & Conference Center, Adrian.  As one effort to live more fully as members of Earth community, this workshop will focus on the mutually beneficial relationship between humans and animals in our everyday, personal lives with particular attention given to the stages of our lives that involve sickness and aging.  We will be invited to see with “new eyes” the interconnectedness and interdependence fo all God’s creatures.  Cost (including lunch) is $50.  For further details and to register call 517-266-4000.

MARRIAGE ENRICHMENT

CATECHIST FORMATION & ADULT FAITH FORMATION

BEREAVEMENT

Journeying Through Grief, an 8 week education support group series for all adults in the community who are grieving the death of a loved one, will be offered at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ, 125 S. RETREATS

 

Praying with Body, Mind and Spirit: The Movement of God will be offered Thursday, June 18, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Capuchin Retreat Center in Washington, Michigan.  Join us just before the summer solstice for a special experience of God in nature.  Through movement, music and guided meditation, we will reflect on the magnificence of God’s creation in a special evening held outdoors on the lush grounds of the Capuchin Retreat Center.  Feel the breath of the Spirit, marvel at the splendor of the trees, and hear the songs of the birds amidst your prayer.  Basic movements will be taught which can be done by anyone, regardless of experience or physical limitation.  Wear comfortable clothes for the outdoors.  In case of rain we’ll move indoors and cherish God’s beauty through the windows.  Retreat director will be Janene Ternes.  Cost is $15.00.  To register call 248-651-4826.  For further information call Janene Ternes at 734-429-7754, www.prayer-in-motion.com.

Piece Work – Soul Work will be offered Friday-Sunday, October 9-11 at Weber Center, Adrian.  Through conversation, sharing, journaling and quilting, participants will explore the awakenings they have experienced in their lives.  Ann Hughes and Barbara Harvey will be the retreat directors. SCRIPTURE STUDY

Those Feisty Gospel Women! will be offered Friday - Sunday, October 23-25, at Weber Center, Adrian.  Women were there at every juncture of Jesus’ life: from his conception to his resurrection.  Over time, they may have been edited out of the gospels, or their roles diminished, so let’s resurrect their stories.  We can re-imagine their lives, using an ancient Midrash technique.  Then we’ll make the link to our lives: what do they teach us today?  Come for reflection, surprise and a new approach to reading the gospels.  Presentor will be Kathy Coffey, author, teacher, and religious educator.  Cost is $325 single occupancy, $250 double occupancy, $175 commuter.  To register and for more information call 1-517-266-4000.

Wednesday Morning Bible Study of St. Paul’s Letters to the Romans and Galatians will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas, East Lansing, 10:00 - 11:45am.
