Music and Art Therapy programs at Be Our Guest Adult Day get a boost

Thanks to a generous gift of $5,000 from the Robert W. & Maxine C. Parker Foundation, Be Our Guest Adult Day program of Livingston County Catholic Charities will be able to continue its weekly music therapy and art programs at the center – which serves individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

The staff at Be Our Guest Adult Day have seen a tremendous difference in many of the guests’ moods, interactions, socialization and recollection on the days that music and art are provided.  As dementia has stolen the loved one from the caregivers and families, any positive difference, no matter how small, makes a huge difference in their lives.

According to an article in the Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver’s Tips & Tools newsletter, “Many Alzheimer's patients can remember and sing songs even in advanced stages, long after they've stopped recognizing names and faces. Beyond the entertainment value, there's growing evidence that listening to music can also help stimulate seemingly lost memories and even help maintain some cognitive functioning.”

Be Our Guest Adult Day’s objective is to provide a meaningful day while promoting independence and preserving dignity for its guests. The daily activities are designed to be entertaining, fun and stimulating for their minds and bodies. The staff strives to plan a schedule according to the interests of the individuals served each day.

Be Our Guest Adult Day is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and serves guests ranging in age from 55 to 100. For more information, please contact Suzi or Katie at 517.546.9910.
