Marriage Encounter

St. John, Davison, hosted a nonresidential Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend during the day. Fifteen couples took part in the daytime event. Three couples and Father Tom Thompson, DeWitt, presented.John and Julia Nelson are leaders for Lansing, Saginaw and Gaylord Diocese. Julia says, “The nonresidential weekend meets people’s needs more. They do not have to stay overnight.”
This is the 45th year for Marriage Encounter. Julia shares, “The weekend was the best gift we gave our kids. People come from all walks of life. It is amazing that the things we talk about are universal.” She continues, “My parents encountered when I was growing up. They are still involved after 35 years.”
Another couple, Vicki and Paul Horak are preparing to become team leaders after making their encounter weekend. Vicki says, “We have a much deeper relationship. We have been married almost 19 years and have six children.”
Couples are encouraged to join a group after the weekend. The Flint Sharing Group prepared everything for this weekend. Presenters were Tony and Many Schwerin from St. John, Davison, and two other couples from outside of the diocese. By Jan Hoffbauer
