FEE SCHEDULE

The Diocese of Lansing Catholic Cemeteries witness the core Catholic belief in the Resurrection into life eternal and the communion of the saints.  Our cemeteries strive to be genuine, inviting and inspiring places of faith and memory. They also must be practical and functional as providers of products and services.  Because Christ took a human body, died and was buried, we commit ourselves to make and keep our diocesan cemeteries places of promise and hope.

Cemeteries operate in the real world. In order to continue its ministry, our cemeteries must use sound business principles to provide the service our families have grown to expect from a Catholic cemetery.   Contrary to public perception, the diocesan cemeteries do not receive any grants or subsidies from the Diocese of Lansing.  They are completely self-supporting.  This
paradox – a ministry and a business-like operation, often results in a natural tension between continuing the mission of the Church and continuing the operation of the cemeteries: a tension between ministry and money. This is nothing new, nor is it peculiar to the Church.

Cemetery pricing must provide a balance for products and services and at the same time, not overburden the faithful who choose our cemeteries as their final resting place.

Sources of Income

1. BURIAL RIGHTS - Sale of rights to burial space comprises the major source of revenue for Catholic cemeteries. This revenue enables the further expansion and development of land and building projects.  A minimum of 15% of the sales price is placed into an endowed care fund.  The interest from the fund provides for the current and future care and maintenance of the cemetery (mowing, water, road maintenance, beautification, etc.).

2. VARIOUS CEMETERY SERVICE FEES - Cemetery fees for burial services, memorial foundations and lettering comprises another major source of revenue. This income pays the operating overhead of the cemeteries. These fees fund the personnel, the physical plant, the equipment, the supplies and materials for the services and products we offer.

3. MEMORIALIZATION OF BURIAL PLACES - Other money comes from the sale of grave memorials and other memorialization, such as: emblems, crosses, vases, silk floral arrangements, wreaths and flowers. This money supports the continuing daily operations our cemeteries.

Collectively, these revenue sources keep the cemeteries solvent so we can receive the deceased  whenever our services are called for and also provide supportive ministries and services for the living.

Ministry based services are offered by the Diocese of Lansing Cemeteries to the Catholic community as a whole and are without fee.  These services include, but are not limited to the
following; counseling for at-need burial arrangements, charity burial for those in need, special liturgies and prayer services.
